How PEAMO works
A plain-English guide to what PEAMO does, what it reads from your email, what the figures on your dashboard mean, and how to keep your contracts up to date.
How the scan works
When you connect a Gmail or Outlook account, PEAMO reads emails in that inbox to identify bills, subscriptions, contracts, and renewals. The scan looks for billing emails — things like monthly invoices, renewal reminders, and subscription confirmations — and extracts structured details from them: the provider name, the recurring cost, the billing frequency, and the next renewal date.
To recognise what a billing email contains, the relevant message content is sent to an AI service (Anthropic's Claude model) for classification. The email content is processed in memory during the scan and is not stored by PEAMO afterwards — only the structured details extracted from it are kept.
Once a scan completes, the detected contracts appear on your dashboard, grouped by category. You can run a scan again at any time to pick up newly detected contracts.
What PEAMO reads — and what it doesn't store
PEAMO reads email content from the inbox or inboxes you explicitly connect. It does not access inboxes you have not connected.
What is read during a scan:
- Email subject lines, sender addresses, and message body text from connected inboxes.
- Billing-relevant details: provider name, amount, billing frequency, and renewal or next-payment date, where present in the message.
What is kept after a scan:
- The structured details extracted from a billing email — provider, category, detected cost, renewal date, and where the contract was found (Gmail or Outlook).
- An OAuth access credential for each inbox you connect, stored in an encrypted vault. This credential is used only to perform the scans you have authorised.
What is not kept after a scan:
- Raw email content — message bodies, subject lines, and sender details are processed in memory and not stored by PEAMO after the scan completes.

Dig deeper
Each detected contract has a “Dig deeper” action. When you choose to use it, PEAMO re-reads the emails in your already-connected inbox that are related to that specific contract. It uses this to fill in details that a standard scan may have missed — such as the exact price, the renewal date, or a link to your provider's own manage-or-cancel page.
Dig deeper uses the same mailbox access you already granted when you connected your inbox — it does not request any broader permission. As with a scan, the email content is processed in memory and sent to our AI sub-processor for classification; no new raw email content is stored. Only the derived details — such as the price and renewal date — are saved against that contract.
Dig deeper is currently rolling out and may show as “coming soon” for your account. When it is available, you will see it on the detail page for any contract in your dashboard.
What the figures on your dashboard mean
PEAMO shows each detected contract's cost in two views — per year and per month — so you can see your commitments in the frame that is most useful to you. Here is what each figure represents:
- Annual figure (£/yr) — the recurring cost as detected, multiplied by the billing frequency. For example, a £45/month charge is shown as approximately £540 per year. This is a calculation based on the detected price; it is not a guaranteed figure.
- Monthly figure (£/mo) — the annual figure divided by 12. For charges that are already monthly, this matches the detected amount. For annual charges, it is the annual cost divided by 12.
- Detected price — the exact amount read from the billing email (for example, “£38.00”), shown on each contract's detail page.
- Comparison estimate (£/yr — comparison estimate, based on UK category averages) — an indicative figure shown for contracts in categories where alternative options exist on PEAMO's Compare page. This is a rough estimate based on UK market averages for that category, not a personalised quote. It is shown so you can see roughly where your detected cost sits relative to the category; it is not a recommendation and PEAMO does not provide financial advice.
- Price not detected — PEAMO found and recorded this contract from your emails but could not extract a price from the messages it read. This can happen if the billing emails for that provider do not include the amount in a way the scan can read. Using “Dig deeper” (when available) can help fill in a missing price.
Adding or correcting a contract
PEAMO detects contracts automatically from your connected email, but you can also add and edit contracts manually.
- Add a contract manually — on your dashboard, use the “Add contract” button to create a contract with the details you supply (provider, category, cost, billing frequency, and renewal date).
- Correct a detected contract — open any contract from your dashboard to see its detail page, then use “Edit details” to update the provider name, category, cost, frequency, or renewal date.
- Remove a contract — on a contract's detail page, you can remove it from your dashboard. Removing a contract deletes the stored details for that contract.
Privacy — the basics
PEAMO is operated by Arcshore Limited, registered in England & Wales. It is subject to UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). Here is a short summary of how your data is handled:
- Your inbox access credential (OAuth token) is stored in an encrypted vault and used only to perform the scans you have authorised.
- Email content read during a scan is processed in memory and not stored by PEAMO after the scan completes.
- Detected contract details (provider, cost, renewal date, category) are stored until you remove the contract, disconnect the inbox and erase its contracts, or delete your account.
- You can disconnect a connected inbox at any time from your account settings.
- To request full account deletion, contact support@peamo.co.uk.

Frequently asked questions
Does PEAMO read every email in my inbox?
No. The scan looks for billing-related emails — invoices, renewal reminders, and subscription confirmations. It does not read unrelated personal email.
Can PEAMO send emails on my behalf or make changes to my accounts?
No. PEAMO requests read-only access to your inbox. It does not send emails, delete emails, or make any changes to your email account or to any provider account.
Why doesn't PEAMO show a price for some contracts?
Price detection depends on the billing emails for that provider containing the amount in a form the scan can read. Some providers send only a link to a portal, or include the amount only in an attached document. The “Dig deeper” feature (when available) re-reads those emails more closely and can often fill in a missing price.
What categories does PEAMO detect?
PEAMO currently detects contracts in the following categories: broadband, mobile, mortgage, credit card, savings account, subscription, loan, and insurance. If a contract does not clearly fall into one of these categories, it may not be detected automatically — you can add it manually using the “Add contract” button on your dashboard.
Does PEAMO provide financial advice?
No. PEAMO organises and presents information about your detected contracts — it does not provide financial advice, and nothing on PEAMO should be relied on as such. Every decision about your contracts remains with you. See our values and terms for more detail.
How do I disconnect an inbox?
Go to Settings → Connections and use the disconnect option for the inbox you want to remove. You will be asked whether to erase the contracts detected from that inbox at the same time.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account to delete your account. Account deletion permanently removes your data from PEAMO, including all detected contracts and inbox connections.
What is the Compare page?
For certain categories (such as broadband and mobile), PEAMO shows a Compare page where you can see options from partners PEAMO has affiliate arrangements with. The options shown come from those partners only — PEAMO does not show every provider in the market — and PEAMO does not rank or recommend any option. Every affiliate-linked option is labelled “Ad / Affiliate link”. For more on how PEAMO is funded, see How we make money.
